If you’re like many, many people out there, you also know that it can be super hard to stick to those resolutions after a few weeks.
Let’s face it, going to the gym in January can be the absolute pits. It’s usually packed full of people and sometimes you find the equipment you wanted to use is occupied. You may also find yourself totally overwhelmed by the equipment in general (it is super intimidating if you’re not a regular)!

Especially like the plans I’ve curated with Booya Fitness designed specifically for brides. Whether you’re looking for a 2, 4, or 8-week plan, we’ve got you covered.
Right now you can join Booya Fitness free for 30 days and they are running a super fun New Year’s Resolution Challenge from January 11-25th on social media. Join my “Until the Aisle” series, share your progress, and win BIG! For full instructions on how you can join in click this link! On Saturday, we’ll be winding back the clocks which means there will be less daylight. This will be my first full winter transition since I moved over from America. At home, when we wind the clocks back it’s light out in the morning and darker earlier in the evenings. I’ve been told that in Glasgow there’s very little daylight for some time. All of these changes can cause serious disruptions to our moods.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is depression associated with late autumn and winter thought to be caused by a lack of light.
Some symptoms of SAD are:
Many of these symptoms can be combated with regular exercise.
If you’re planning a spring wedding, you’ll want to stay on top of your mood and health to be sure everything goes according to plan.
Here are some of the important ways in which exercise can improve your mood while daylight is limited in the months ahead.
Energy boost. Exercise gives you a boost in energy which also provides mood enhancement. Incorporating movement into your life will help to beat those mood fluctuations before they start.
Increased blood flow. The late autumn weeks into the early weeks of winter are usually filled with parties, meals, and cocktails. The overindulgences can put pressure on your detoxification processes. However, regular exercise increases blood flow to the liver and the detoxification of waste. Forget those fancy “cleanse” pills or detox drinks with maple syrup. Our bodies are equipped to detoxify our systems naturally when we eat well and exercise regularly.
Improved immunity. Did you know that regular exercise naturally boosts your body’s immune system? When we move our bodies, we improve our lymphatic and cardiovascular circulation which help to fight off those germs we’re exposed to on our commutes and in our offices and protect us from getting ill.
Reduction of stress, anxiety, and depression. Some of the most high-octane and stressful events of the year are during the days with the shortest amount of daylight. Beat the “winter blues” or “post-holiday crash” by keeping fit. Research shows that staying active helps to remove the by-products produced during times of anxiety or stress.
Weight loss. During the holidays and winter months, it is easy to indulge more and lose the motivation to exercise. This combination can lead to weight gain or a change in body composition, which can also lead to stress and depression. By incorporating a couple of days of vigorous exercise into your routine, you can reap all the other health benefits of exercise as well as keep your weight under control.

It’s also getting to be that time of year when the clocks go back and it’s dark outside. This does nothing for our mood, am I right?
